Founder News: May is a UN Women UK delegate for The Commission on the Status of Women 2023

This year, May has been selected as an official UN Women UK delegate to participate in the March 2023 conference for The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) Session 67.

1. Understanding the Significance of the CSW: It’s Role and Purpose

Founded in 1946, The Commission on the Status of Women is the principal global policy-making body dedicated to promoting equality and empowering women across the globe by:

  • Discussing progress 
  • Identifying challenges
  • Setting policies
  • Setting global standards

The conference is held in New York every March at the United Nations headquarters, where leaders from around the world gather to attend a packed schedule of hundreds of different sessions across a variety of subject areas and issues.

2. Next Steps: What Happens Now

UN Women UK have extended the opportunity to people with a passion and track record for change making to volunteer to become official UN Women UK delegates.

From the 6th-17th of March, May and the other delegates will have access to a whole host of virtual and in-person events / platforms to discuss, reflect and create an action plan towards key topical issues surrounding inequality in the world today. 

This year, the main theme for the session is: 

“Innovation and technological change, and education in the digital age for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls.”

3. The importance of this for May and the other delegates:

This is a fantastic opportunity for anybody with a passion for equality, human rights, and advocating for what is right in society. 

For many, this is a priceless opportunity to get involved with leaders from around the world to make a commitment and contribute what they can to world change.

May is honoured to be a part of this momentous event. Being provided with a platform to voice her own opinions and beliefs on equality interlinks seamlessly with her passion for striving for equality in business and empowering female business owners. 

Following CSW67 May will continue to work alsoside UN Women UK to support the incredible work they are doing in both the UK and around the world – particularly in supporting women via entrepreneurship.
